01/21/10

Phew....so, I have totally slacked. Anyways, I am still doing fairly well on paleo, I did break down once and have a couple beers but THATS IT!! Its now the 21st so I have made it more than two weeks, which was one of my main goals. I am going to go out with my friends. That will most likely include some drinks.

On a different note, yesterday was my first day of starting school up again. To get my MA. I have spent the majority of today with my nose in a book trying to remember how to study. It's strange because the last time I was studying like this, I was in McQuade Library! Its great to be back on the school wagon so I don't have to feel like my world is flying by me.

Also very exciting is that we might be getting bumper plates and kettlebells at work, it would be fantastic to have those!!

Days five and six.

Phew, just finishing day six. Still no cheats :) Its my first night shift eating strictly paleo and it has not been too bad so far, spent the first half of shift in the range so that killed some time. I am still eating alot of dried mangos which I should/need to cut out or at least cut back on, but other than that, I am doing alright and not having a hard time eating and staying full.

I cant tell a difference in my body but I felt good working out the last couple of days. I did the following workouts:

01/09/10

In the weightroom at work.

5 rounds of

5 pullups (60# offset on gravitron machine)
10 swings (54#)
5 hang power cleans (95#)

It feels good doing the swings with the heavier weight, I am going to try to jump up to the 20kg kb when I am doing swings or kb work in the future.

01/10/10

In the morningish I went to "Elk St Crossfit" aka paul's gym and did "the kegerator"

This workout felt good, I felt pretty strong throughout the whole thing and my time was pretty good compared to the other times that girls had on this workout. I didnt feel like it was super hard (maybe cause of the diet??)

Later at work I did some strength work

3x5 back squat
135, 155, 175

3x3 deadlift
185, 235, 255

These both felt really good, the dead lift is good to do with the iron plates because I dont feel like I can just let it slam back to the ground like I can with bumpers.

Tomorrow I am hoping to go for a run and do some sprints, I havent done much running lately and I think it would be a welcome change from the weights.

Day Three.




These are my best friends from high school not long ago (missing a few)....so fun to hang out with, as always!!

Today was day three and I made it. No cheats. I do need to cut back on the dried mango slices, they are totally paleo but it would be better if I ate more veggies than fruit. Over the next four or so days of work, that will be my goal...reduce how much high glycemic fruit I am eating. I worked out at NW today after having an O lifting class there. I did a workout after that:

I decided that I would try to do all the things that I couldn't do if I was going to workout at work for the next couple days.

I can't tell a big difference in performance, but I am hoping that if I cut out some of the fruit I am eating and replace it with protein it will help. I might rest tomorrow depending on how I feel.

Day Two

Well, I've nearly made it through the end of day two...phew!!

My workout for today was in the backyard:

40-30-20-10
KB Swings
Push Ups
Box Dips

Rest 3 minutes, then:

3 rounds of

20 sit ups
15 suitcases
10 twists with 16kg kb

((not timed))

I did this to give legs a break, they were hurting after those jump squats yesterday.

My diet feels good, I havent noticed any changes yet ((not that I expected too, but it was stated that some people do)). Day three tomorrow and then back to work for four days.

This made my arms feel it quite a bit, it was amazing how tired they got really quickly.

Day One.

Phew, I did it. Day one is in the books. I ate 100% paleo all day. I didn't feel hungry and felt like I ate well balanced meals. The quick break down:

Coffee
B-fast: apple, 5 oz scrambled eggs, handful of nuts, 3 pieces of yams
dried mango slice
Lunch: 5 oz scrambled eggs, small handful of nuts, 3 oz blueberries/2 mango slices (dried)
3 oz blue berries, small handful of nuts, 3 dried mango slices
Pre WOD: 1 oz chicken
Post WOD: 3 oz extra lean ground beef, salad, tomato, onion, 1/2 avacado, 2 dried mango slices.

The workout was a good one. Long enough to feel like a great workout:

AMR 20 minutes:
8 power cleans (77#)
10 sit ups
12 jump squats

15 rounds + 4 power cleans.

Felt good, my legs feel toasted from those jump squats! Working out in the class setting just ups the intensity level, its amazing!!

"Whole30" starting 01/06/2010

Hmm... So today I didn't workout again, which was fine because I did get to have a great time with my friends and go ride the Alpine Coaster at Park City. Twice. It was awesome, EV and I too a fantastic video of us going down the second time.

I feel like now that I am back home or a while I should start with my 2010 Goals (to be named shortly)...

What I am planning on starting tomorrow is the "whole30". I was forwarded a blog post written by the owner of a Crossfit gym in NH. I'll link it here as soon as I can. It advocates for starting strict paleo for 30 days and seeing what changes it will make in the way your body feels, performs and looks. She provides the "guidelines" for what strict paleo looks like and offers a little tough love about it. I read it and figured why not? It's a month and it could change my life. If not, I can always go back to dt mtn dew and mcdonalds ice cream cones. I'm not going to weigh myself and I'm not king to take pictures, I think that if this diet/lifestyle works as it is supposed too, the results in performance and body composition should speak for themselves.

So...I have all of my 1 rep maxes and numbers for most of the workouts written down. As I do them or repeat ones I have done in the past ill post both the before and after times.

In addition, not that it is necessary but if I able to stick to this for 30 days and not cheat or slip, I am allowed to get the Nixon watch I have been coveting.

For now, I am going to enjoy one last very un-paleo pizza from wolf-gang puck in the SLC airport. Also, on a very un-relayed side note, I just got a shoutout from a fellow crossfitter, wearing a Crossfit sweatshirt in the airport.... Ahh, camraderie is a beautiful thing :)
